Carmelized Apple Topping
- Total Time: 25 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings 1x
Description
There are so many apples, all sorts of varieties available! I was researching recipes for Tarte Tartin, a classic French tart, and thought I’d skip the pastry part. Why not just top these delicious carmelized apples on ice cream, or just a piece of puff pastry? Taste tester totally agreed, and prefers it simply on vanilla ice cream. Delicious, and so simple!
Ingredients
- 1 small or medium apple
- 1/2 stick (1/4 c) butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
Instructions
- Core, slice and peel the apple
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan
- Add the sugar and stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the apples, and continue to stir occasionally over medium low heat until the apples have softened.
- Allow to cool for a bit before spooning over ice cream.
Notes
There are recipes that add lemon juice, you can try this for a change. I found it delicious without the lemon juice.
You can also spoon these apples into baked puff pastry shells, or add ice cream then the carmelized apples for an elegant dessert that is company worthy.

I’ve always loved cooking, and spent many years working on the food & beverage side of the hospitality industry, which served to increase my interest in food, wine and entertaining.
This is so darned easy and what a great idea for topping ice cream! I can’t wait to try this one!
